Polytherm

An advanced and flexible heating system for your home

OVERVIEW

Polytherm puts you in control of your home. Heating where you need it, when you need it.

The Polytherm heating system allows you to set the temperatures for each room, for any time. The heart of the system is the Intelligent Thermostatic Radiator Valve (iTRV) which heats more quickly and more efficiently than your standard radiator valve.

Save Energy and Money – typical savings of 48 to 63% (An average of £378 a year)!

FEATURES

Savings

By controlling the heating in individual rooms, savings of up to 63% could be made – that’s an average of £378 a year

Special Holiday settings can be set that prevent frost while minimising energy-usage, saving even more.

The Energy Lock system detects when a building is empty and lowers the heating level, ensuring the heating is only used when you need it.

Control

Easy iPhone, smartphone and web access makes managing your heating even easier.

Up to 255 different ‘profiles’ can be used to personalise your heating system to your exact needs.

With a weekly schedule and multiple options, our heating timers give you true flexibility.

Efficiency

The iTRV brings your room to the desired temperature faster than a standard radiator valve, saving heating time.

The Energy Lock system can detect when you return home and heat occupied rooms within minutes.

The system can detect sudden temperature changes (for example, an open window) and adapt accordingly.

HOW IT WORKS

Traditional heating systems are controlled by simple 24 hour clocks, boiler and sometimes a central thermostat.

The Polytherm Heating Controller puts you in control, with the flexibility to set the temperatures you want, at the times you need in every room. This means that unoccupied rooms can be set to a lower temperature or left unheated, until they’re needed.

      Easy Control

    • Your whole home is controlled from one central hub – providing complete control of the heating in your home

    • Control your heating from any smartphone and from any web-enabled device

    • Recieve sensor data from each device, letting you know the temperature, humidity and light levels in every room

    • Powered by AAA batteries and with a long-battery-life of 2 years, homeowners can easily replace the batteries as needed.

      Intelligent Thermostatic Radiator Valve

    • The iTRV uses PID (proportional–integral–derivative) control to reach desired temperatures faster than standard radiator valves

    • PID control means your heating system will also adapt to temperature drops faster

    • The iTRV currently has a 2 year battery-life, with a self-powered model currently in development

    • The valve’s frost protection system will detect when the temperature has dropped and automatically increases the flow, preventing the possibility of freezing pipes.

      Heating Profiles

    • Heating profiles allow you to set 7 different time-periods in one day, for all seven days of the week

    • The temperature in individual rooms can be managed, allowing you to warm rooms when you need them

    • Pre-set holiday periods with special settings reduce energy costs while preventing frost

    • Easy override of heating profiles for immediate heating when you need it.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Intelligent Thermostatic Radiator Valve

The iTRV uses PID control to heat your rooms when you need it.

The system works by using a small motor to control a valve according to water and ambient temperature readings. During startup the valve allows a high flow level, allowing the heat to increase greatly. As the desired temperature is approached, the valve reduces the flow. This allows the desired temperature to be reached significantly faster than with a standard radiator valve.

The valve’s frost protection system will detect when the temperature has dropped and automatically increases the flow, preventing the possibility of freezing pipes.

Networking

The network of devices provides a centralised location to control your heating.

This system is a wireless STAR network topology of devices controlled by the Hub. The end devices periodically provide data to the Hub which controls the heating system.
End devices such as various sensors, iTRV’s, etc. are battery powered and are mostly “sleeping”, only waking to provide periodic updates of the data.
Readings from sensors and management of profiles are all accessible through a web server accessible from your smart device or web browser.
