Manchester Airport

Talking Signs provides a sophisticated way to relay passenger information

Navigation made simple

CLIENT PROFILE

Manchester Airport is the global gateway to the North of England. Every year they handle around 19 million passengers, using over 60 airlines flying direct to around 200 destinations.

THE REQUIREMENT

As part of a £7 million project, Manchester Airport wanted to develop a ground transport interchange that enables seamless travel into the heart of the airport by bus, coach, train and tram. Part of this project included the sophisticated interactive passenger-information system, funded by the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities’ Transport Infrastructure Fund.

THE SOLUTION

Our product ‘talking signs’ are designed to give all people equal access to public areas like Airports, Railway and Bus Stations regardless of handicap. Manchester installed 11 in their GTI (Ground Transport Interchange). The system uses an early Speech Engine (AT&T) to produce speech to guide users to the correct stand & destination.
